Dental health is often overlooked in veterinary care, but it is an essential component of an animal’s overall well-being. Dental problems can cause significant discomfort and lead to other health issues if left untreated. Veterinary dental X-rays play a key role in identifying issues such as broken teeth, infections, periodontal disease and tumors, all of which are not always visible during routine oral examinations.
Capturing dental imagery requires accuracy and precision. While humans can be instructed to “hold still” during x-ray alignment, the same does not hold true for animals. They usually require anesthesia to keep them still for an accurate image.
Promptly and accurately lining up an X-ray image is important to reduce the amount of time the patient spends under anesthesia, increase the efficiency of procedures and improve patient outcomes.
